Normally I’m not into ‘show swag’ but these hoodies are pretty sweet. Nice after today’s workout and before another flight tonight. Will definitely take this with me as a reminder of my amazing time with this show and company. And yes ... I will be leaving soon. Will be sad to go.
A little bit about my painting from the Paradigm Shift exhibition that opened tonight at #KeaneEyesGallery :
"I Felt Lied To"
Oil on linen, sliced up, shifted, and riveted to steel and aluminum support.
I painted this piece and cut it into strips as a way of dissecting and reconfiguring how we address cultural identity through the lens of diversity in 2017. We are seeing Canadian citizens with colourful backgrounds at the front lines of a cultural rift as a result of political runoff while we contend to remain a country true to it's foundations of multiculturalism. This displacement is entering the relationships we are not just forming, but affecting the relationships already established between citizens, and we can witness the face of diversity changing as a result. "I Felt Lied To" exposes cultural identity issues through the portrait of a Lebanese Canadian who has lost loved ones as a result of the shift in diversity norms. The painting dissected, and reconfigured is a literal depiction of the shift her identity has taken in the recent year- the shift in how she's viewed, and as she views herself as she reevaluates her background and what it means in terms of being a Canadian citizen, and how this forms her cultural identity.
"(She) was talking about my people, where my family is from- it was so hateful. What could I do?... It's hard to imagine I lost a decade of friendship over this. She always said I was like a sister. I felt lied to."
Benefits arrive before mastery. It’s ok to be a beginner, to look silly, to step outside your habits in order to grow. In fact, you can take pride in being a person who’s willing to do so. #yoga#keepiteversoslightlyreal#bensearsknows#consitency#diversity#growth#peace ———————————————
Last day for early bird sign up for teacher training in sunny Huntington Beach is October 31. Very excited to connect with this growing group of yogis and share a powerful curriculum. Link in my bio.
This piece feels like multidimensional wings emerging through a vortex loop. The bubbles on the outskirts represent all the flight destinations available to the wings. The bubbles/pathways remind me of cells dividing into creations but they can only be born because the wings have emerged. The possibilities weren't possible before that. It is the wings emergence that created the process of the cells dividing. I feel this is true of all humanity, that it's beginning to emerge from a state of sleep, into one of transition like the wings, and because of this new pathways are being created. There are many triggers & catalysts to these changes. These can be disguised as being unpleasant and uncomfortable but I feel it's this that triggers the transformation. Sometimes what is most uncomfortable acts as a catalyst, a longing for a different or better tomorrow.
My guidance says ......
What lays true for one may be untrue for another. There is the truth. There is no good nor bad, but experience to be had. What one sees as pleasure another sees as boredom. The truth of experience lays in the eyes of the beholder. What one loves another hates. All consequences are subject to the ideology of the one that chooses the outcome. It is neither right or wrong. There is such diversity in your physical experience. This is the wonderment of life. What you seek to create another may not. What another seeks to create you may not. You may manipulate your world however you wish it to form. This is your birthright. You mould the energy with your thoughts with your beliefs as one moulds clay with its hands. The piece signifies diversity in the human experience. All wings are different, much as no one fingerprint is same. Your experience your creation is valid to you. Believe it, live it. Instead of scruitunising your creations, see their beauty. Appreciate your diversity instead of finding fault. Appreciation allows the foundation for more to be born.

geT tO KNow • Last week I promised to shout the creatives that made up the Diversity + Inclusion symposium I curated at the AIGA Design Conference in Minneapolis. So here we go. I knew I wanted someone who built or aided in the conception of a resource that everyone could have access to. Introducing Kris Woolery, senior strategist a Microsoft who gave a presentation on the design intent of “Inclusive: A Microsoft Design Toolkit.” In this talk she referenced how they scaled inclusive design practices across Microsoft and beyond, as well as the lessons they learned throughout the journey to deepen the practice. Kris crushed it and set the stage for the speakers coming after her. Visit Microsoft.com/en-us/design/inclusive for info regarding this product.
