I have the baking bug! Just in time for the upcoming holidays. I made banana bread and I'm cooking chili, one of my husband's fave recipes. I'm also scoping out Black Friday deals for Kitchenaid mixers.

"To grab them. Each little moment as it arrives. Forever, Emily Dickinson said, is composed of nows. But how do you inhabit the now you are in? How do you stop the ghosts of all the other nows from getting in?" - Matt Haig
Tom Hazard is a History teacher at a London inner-city school. He's well qualified to teach history because he's lived it. Tom is 439 years old.
This is a delightful, thought-provoking, life affirming book that I devoured in two days. Haig is another of those contemporary authors (Amor Towles, Fredrik Backman) who understands and communicates human nature beautifully.
As a bonus, the reader is taken on a wild ride through history and it really does come alive.
I rarely buy new releases as I prefer to wait until the initial buzz dies down to see if the positive reviews continue. This is my second this year - along with Mozart's Starling - and I've loved them both. (Maybe there's a lesson there for me!) Highly recommended.
Two and a half years ago I was sitting at @lecafedeflore with @yaz_trollope and @jocelynpetroni, waxing lyrical about my love of Paris. “You have to write this down,” they said. “This is a book.” And I can never thank these two beautiful women enough because that was my light bulb, my aha moment. I knew this is what I had to do, which was exhilarating but also terrifying because I knew all sorts of dramas would ensue. And they did. I became the cliché poor struggling writer, manically scribbling crazed thoughts on countless post-its into the wee hours. I experienced rejections. I plunged into periods of self-doubt. But I knew deep down that I was on the right path, no matter how off-track it seemed to go at times. And so I persisted, because it would have been harder to turn back, to try to forget about the book that was already writing itself on my heart. And then things started to fall in place. I got an agent! I got a book deal!! I got paid!!! I got an ISBN!!!! And I got the most amazing team of word lovers and literary artisans and artists who have helped make this happen. I don’t love talking myself up, and I hope that doesn’t sound like a humble brag, especially as I’ve written a book that is technically a personal memoir. But I write all the above because I wanted to remind everyone that, excuse the cliché, dreams do come true, and sometimes it’s luck but mostly it’s when you work hard enough to make them materialise. Of course, you need support around you from family and friends and peers. But mostly you need to believe in yourself. You need to not deny what your true self truly wants, and commit to that as if your life depends on it, because perhaps it does. #parisdreaming hits the bookshelves Monday, and it really is my proverbial dream. I hope it will be loved, as I poured so much love into it, but at the end of the day I’m just so happy that I can say, wow, this has really happened, that I was able to go back to Café de Flore recently with the actual book that was just a sparkle in my eye on that previous time 💓✨💓✨💓
