There's something about a bookstore that just calms my soul. Anytime I am stressed, depressed, anxious, whatever it is, it will all go away the second I step foot into a bookstore. ⠀⠀
Does anyone else feel that way about bookstores?⠀⠀
'What I say is, a town isn't a town without a bookstore. It may call itself a town, but unless it's got a bookstore it knows its not fooling a soul.' Neil Gaiman, American Gods
This is the lovely Crabpot Books in Cley, a gorgeous little bookshop which specialises in rare and secondhand books. We *loved* browsing their shelves.
Had such a wonderful evening with the lovely @beth.bonini and my Mum last night! Beth cooked up a fabulous meal and we chatted away for hours! I also got a peek at Beth’s gorgeous collection of @persephonebooks - a similar taste in books is always a good indication of ‘kindred spirits,’ wouldn’t you agree? 💕
It doesn't matter that she shouldn't, that she never would. What matters is that she could, if she wanted.⚡️👭
I’d heard so many fantastic things about The Power, I had to get this mesmerising HB edition. A stunning exploration of how one tiny twist can change the world forever, and set off a chain of events no one could have predicted, with women becoming the dominant gender. Alderman turns our society completely on its head in The Power, making for some shocking parallels. I’m not quite halfway through yet but reading this book has made me feel more powerful physically and emotionally in a way I’ve never felt from fiction before, and I’ve caught myself daydreaming more than once about being able to shoot electricity from my finger tips... if you could develop a superpower overnight, what would it be? 💁🏻♀️💥
Sisters in battle, I am shield and blade to you. As I breathe, your enemies will know no sanctuary. While I live, your cause is mine. 👭
I’m usually a one book woman but to drag me out of my recent reading slump I’ve decided to take a new approach, and dive into a couple at a time. The Power & The Handmaids Tale make the perfect pair, telling tales of women rising up, standing together and finding their strength to fight the patriarchy. Both considered essential feminist works, they have been exactly what I needed to read to find a little of my own power recently 💪🏼♥️

It’s been a while, but I’m back & I’m better... things have been a bit crazy for a while and reading has been on the backburner. I picked up The Handmaids Tale a few months ago and really wanted to love it, although it didn’t immediately grip me I persevered and I’m so pleased I did as I’m now at the stage where I’m almost constantly trying to find time to squeeze in a few pages...As a woman and a mother in a world that doesn’t seem so far detached from the one Offred finds herself in, The Handmaids Tale has struck a chilling chord within me, I’m dying to find out what happens but also don’t want it to end! 👁📕
This kind of speculative fiction is definitely one of my favourite genres... anyone else super excited for Black Mirror 👀?
