Some secrets of the economic situation in Venezuela.
Goldman ? or Russia ?
Maybe China ?
And if I say to you that is a Mexican billionaire ?
Now a days we live in a very unique situation in history. A government with lack of external help, no lawyers, no companies to save the economy of this country. Just few drug dealers like Tarek El Aissami are in charge to rise up this stuff.
Nicolas Maduro already recognized that Venezuela need to restructure the economy. Now the government is hiring advisers to help get through in this difficult situation. So like I said in the beginning: A Mexican billionaire… David Martinez. The “government” (dictatorship) is requiring help from this subject. He runs a hedge fund called Fintech Advisory.
David Martinez is known for be the angel of Latin America countries when they need someone the guide them. He is known like a Phantom. People don’t know much about him.
Now he is kind of “Coach” to help Nicolas Maduro to pass through this situation. He already helped Néstor and Cristina Kirchner in 2005. Some people say that he likes sometimes to act as an informal adviser.
Another angel to try to solve this problem: The law firm Arnold & Porter. A well known US law firm which is advising the government. In this moment PDVSA is working with Hogan Lovells. Venezuela also required help to a big law firm: David Syed of Dentons, an Anglo – American law firm. Maduro don’t want the default, he is afraid… Is a complex thing.
The sanctions of the OFAC block the opportunities to US law firms work with the regime. Law firms and banks refuse to work with the regime of Nicolas Maduro Moros.
Mr Syed moved from the firm Orrick to Destons last week. The firm refuse to work with the regime. But Hogan Lovells and Arnold & Porter love to exempt OFAC rules to continue to work with Venezuela. Working from London, Mr Syed may continue working, with the risk that involves.
