Queen Elizabeth II and The Duke of Edinburgh: 🇬🇧
Today marks the 70th Wedding Anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, The Duke of Edinburgh. On this day, 70 years ago Princess Elizabeth walked down the aisle to meet her dashing naval officer, Prince Philip of Greece. The wedding was a joyous but reserved affair and a boost for a country that was living in a post-war era. The Queen's dress was made by Norman Hartnell but the part I'm always interested in is the jewels. Of course. 😉 As we know, the Queen borrowed Queen Mary's Diamond Fringe tiara for her trip down the aisle and although I can't remember where I saw it now, a video has resurfaced of the Queen talking with the Duchess of Cambridge about her wedding dress on display back in 2011. The Queen mentioned the mishap with her own wedding tiara; that when they took it out the piece collapsed in the middle because of a 'catch' that had broken. She said she didn't know it was also used as a necklace until that day. It needed a quick mending in order to be ready for the Princess to wear it in only a couple hours time. Luckily, it was "taped up" she said and wearable for her trip down the aisle. You'll see that in the pictures, the tiara is a bit off center and the middle part is too wide, hence the broken/taped up piece. Regardless she looked beautiful on her big day and cheers to a couple that has had THE longest marriage in British Royal history 🍾💕🎉 Here's to many more! #antique#atiaraaday#britishroyals#diamonds#history#jewelry#jewels#monarchy#queenelizabethii#queenmarysfringetiara#royalty#royaljewels#tiara#happyanniversary
