For those who self-harm who question: "Why didn't they notice?", "Why didn't they bother ask?", "Why didn't they help?" People DO notice. But some do not know what to do or say. I mean, for someone who has no idea or has never dealt with self-harm, and then sees someone with cuts, bruises, scars, etc., How do you think they are supposed to act?
As a person a long time ago who was in this position, you have to remember, not everything is also self-harm. Some can be a result of abuse/trauma, substance abuse, accident, surgery or a health problem, etc. People are cautious, some don't want to be rude or even upset you if it IS personal. I mean, you can't expect strangers to understand marks on your body, especially when they are made visable. I mean, for all they know, you don't want to be asked or perhaps you will attack them?
But I gaurentee you someone notices and may want to approach you...give them the benefit of the doubt that not all people will know how to approach, voice or help you. Some are confused, some may be too afraid to do anything at all.
If you really are concerned, please get this person help of some kind or talk to them when it is the right time or more conveinent.
For those hurting,
Don't think you are alone.
There are two kinds of hope- Sympathy and Empathy.
Be patient or if you have anyone or help to go to, DO IT. You will be glad you did. ❤
