❤️This is by far one of my all time favorite hip openers and hip strengtheners. To be honest, I hate this position with no assistance, BUT 👆🏼with an assist such as the chair or a barre, I LOVE this position. 😁Funny how a little assist can SO change an experience !👌🏼
▪️When I first started doing what I call standing T's it felt nearly impossible. Talk about being humbled ! I would spin like a top on my leg, it was the weirdest thing ! I couldn't understand what was happening in my own body, which of course as an instructor, just humbled me more. 🔸But #persistence and #practice always pay off. Don't ever avoid something that you feel you "fail" at. Give yourself the opportunity to learn and grow and you may be very surprised to find what you thought you couldn't or never would be able to do, or do better, or do well, you can today. And each day you continue to practice it just gets better. I stuck to it because I understood the benefit of this exercise for my hips, knees, ankles and feet, and my back. It was huge to me ! I couldn't have opted to skip it, it was too important and something I clearly needed and was missing ! It's STILL a challenge freestanding on the mat. I realize how much strength I lack in my hips. But I'll just keep at it. So hoping that speaks to someone today to encourage ! ✅This can be done with hands just on a kitchen counter, back of a chair, or a barre. ✅Make sure to stay centered over the floor and not lean off to one side. (It's normal to feel more "pressure" coming down through arm of side with leg lifted) ✅Really focus on keeping chest broad, heart lifted. ✅Careful to keep your upper body the same level in space as your hips, not lower or higher. ✅Pull your leg back from fold of glute (for the rest see continued in comments😉)

BUT- being away last week makes me feel so grateful for my job. Being able to come back and be so excited to get back to it is incredibly encouraging.
