Yes, if 1600kcal is an appropriate target for your weight loss goal, then sticking to either of these diets would bring results. ⚖️ ⠀
However foods offer us more than just calories. Traditionally 'healthy foods' tend to be advantageous for weight loss because they are more voluminous per kcal, more filling and more micro dense. All of this creates a healthier, less hungry environment, which makes sticking to the diet more possible. 🥕 ⠀
Trying to eat 1600kcal of processed foods will likely result in far less filling, less voluminous food and poor micro density. Feeling sluggish and very hungry is not a great way to go about losing weight and will almost certainly lead to overconsumption or going off track. 🍪 ⠀
FINDING YOUR BALANCE: ⠀
Both diets above have draw backs, there should always be an element of balance. Depriving yourself of all the foods you like and force feeding kale is a good way to get sick of dieting and give up entirely. If we understand that a calorie deficit is the physiological mechanism of weight loss, we can start to look at the practical methods that best help YOU achieve this: ⠀

High protein ✅
Fruit and veg ✅
Oily fish/fats ✅
Foods you enjoy ✅
A way of eating you can sustain ✅ ⠀
This may mean swapping in a 250kcal chocolate bar in place of yogurt and fruit. In the context of a micro dense, high protein, calorie matched diet, this swap will have zero affect on your weight loss goal, other than that you may be slightly hungrier - but slightly happier! Choose the diet that helps you maintain a calorie deficit for the length of time required to lose weight, happily and healthily. ⠀

For me the definition of recovery is being able to function. Happiness is a part of that. But being able to function makes me happy. My definition of being able to function is to be able to do things without being prevented by a giant inpenetrable brick wall. Thats what it feels like when my illness gets in the way. Even the tiny everyday tasks are impossible. All the things other people do with ease and dont understand why i cant just do them like everybody else. The wall is invisible to the naked eye you see. A myth, a fantasy, an excuse. No one believes it exists but I cant seem to find a way around it. That is the purpose of seeking treatment for me. To find a way around, over, under or through that wall. I dont care how, as long as I get through it. Ive spent years yearning for the day I finally tear it down. Ive been trapped behind it for so long im not sure at life on the otherside looks like.
I would say I am doing well at the moment. No pressing suicidal thoughts or yearning to take my own life. I might even say most of the time ive actually enjoyed being alive!
But I have been wondering whether or not I am truly in recovery. Sometimes its hard to tell when the only normal you know is a heightened state of euphoria. The contrast to depression is that sweet mania. Nothing else will ever satisfy a bipolar mind. But I try to be content with it. I calm myself whenever I have the urge to soar like a kite. I keep my feet firmly planted on the ground but that doesn't stop me looking at the clouds.
I feel unaccomplished. I have done none of the chores & things I should be doing, wanted or was told to do. There is irritability and a strong sense of urgh…I just cant fucking do it taking hold.
Where is this resistance coming from I wonder?What is this standing in my way?Is it that wall I finally tore down being built back up again?Or do I just hate doing chores… Although when I look back on my days I have actually been quite productive.Lets just say I havent watched netflix in weeks! Yet I feel so unaccomplished it makes me feel ill.But I am happy. For the first time in my life I feel at peace in this world. Im trying to tell myself thats enough.

Here's a free recipe from my Transformation Program. ⭐️ Roasted Pumpkin and White Bean Soup ⭐️ I guessed with that blizzard outside everyone would be needing some warming, comforting yet nutritious recipes ❄️ Here you go!
1 large carrot
1 large onion
1 tin of cannellini beans
4 cloves whole garlic
2 tsp smoked paprika
1 liter good quality vegetable stock
1 tsp fresh ginger
½ tsp dried chilli
1 tbsp olive oil
Preheat the oven to 180 degrees
Place all of the chopped veggies in a large bowl and coat them with the olive oil and smoked paprika.
Lay the vegetables out on a baking tray and roast for 30 minutes, or until cooked through with a slight char on the edges.
Set aside to cool slightly.
Place the roasted vegetables, the cannellini beans, ginger and vegetable stock in a blender and purée.
Put the pureed soup into a large saucepan over a low heat and simmer gently. If you like a bit of spice you can add the dried chilli, and stir through.
Simmer the soup until it’s warmed through to your desired temperature.
Season to taste and serve with a good quality bread of your choice. Enjoy!

I’ve wanted to stop working out:: to go back to eating at my favorite fast food restaurants for every meal because a) no one was watching and b) I didn’t have the energy
I may have needed to rest, refuel and reset, but I refuse to quit 👊🏼

We’re often guilty of shifting responsibility; suggesting events are out of hands. Whilst that may true to some extent, you may have more influence over events than you think & how you respond to events.
Somewhere along the lines many of us have grown jaded. We’ve fallen short of goals and accepted it is what it is.
We’ve convinced ourselves that we can’t change based on past experiences and a low sense of self esteem.
“Maybe I’ll never feel confident with my body.”
“Maybe I’ll never get this right.”
“Maybe things won’t get better; I’ll never accept myself.”
Let’s not downplay your personal challenges, but let’s not downplay your personal strengths either.
You can stay mad at the World, berate yourself and feel helpless or you can start taking control and making choices that are favourable towards your goals.
I’m not saying it’ll be easy, but boy it’ll be worth it.
