It was another late night with his mother in the kitchen. “Again,” she said, as she tossed the plate to the side. It was 2 o’clock in the morning, and he was on his 23rd batch of eggs. He slowly placed the eggs in the boiling water, and watched them float. He slowly swayed his wrist and watched the eggs move from one side to the next. “It’s all in the wrist”, she whispered. He scooped the eggs on the plate, and watched her slice into it. “Again”, she said, tossing the plate to the side. Frustrated, he let go of the pan and walked off. “I don’t get why we’ve been stuck on eggs for a month, teach me more”, he told her. She kneeled down and sat next to him, “because the greatest things start from the most simple ingredients”, she said. He smiled at her, and so did she, before they stepped back into the kitchen.
Twenty years later, he found himself working as a Chef in his own restaurant. “Your mothers here David”, one of the waitresses told him. He smiled, and prepared her favorite dish himself, something that wasn’t on the menu. “Service please”, he asked. Staring out through the kitchen doors, he smiled at his mom, only to notice the waiter giving someone else her dish. Before he could say anything, it was too late, and the other customer began to eat it. Days later, he noticed a letter in the mail. As he slowly opened it, he saw that it was from ‘Michelin Guide’. His jaw dropped when he saw that his restaurant was awarded a Michelin star, after a rave review of his moms favorite Eggs Benedict dish. Funny how a simple ingredient turned into something great. End scene.
