A March on Rajpath as a NCC cadet left an indelible impression in the mind of Divya. Little did she know that one day she will create history at the same Rajpath in front of the countrymen. She became the first women officer (from Corps of Army Air Defence) to lead a contingent if 154 officers and cadets during the republic day parade in 2015. The then President of US, Mr. Barak Obama was present as a chief guest for the event.
It is indeed an honour and perhaps a once in lifetime opportunity said Divya (to IANS). She also said, I hope watching us March in uniform will inspire many women to come ahead and join the forces to serve the nation.
Not this, she also created history by becoming the first woman in the army to recieve the coveted "Sword of Honour", which is awarded to the best cader or Officers Training Academy (OTA) running the course. She won this award amongst 244 cadets, including 63 women passed out of OTA that year. A multifaceted personality she is also an accomplished bharatnatyam dancer, percussionist & well versed in sports like basketball and discuss throw.
By the way, she was named the best NCC cadets at the Republic day parade in 2008, from where the journey started.
Divya, you inspire us.
