I love being a mum.
But you know what else I love?
Going to the pub on a Friday night, having a good feed and a weird mix of drinks simply out of fear of missing out on anything good.
Mr Vanda and I hopped out of the uber on the way to the pub with an extra spring in our step and looked at each other and said “fk this is great”.
Before I knew it, I looked at the time and it was 10:30pm, early really but I had my sister back at home “baby sitting” and I knew Lola had been in bed for at least 3 hours at this stage and knew it wasn’t fair to leave her sitting on the couch bored shitless for any longer.
So we left.
As we walked through the bustling bar I thought to myself (and vocalized to my husband) that this was the life. That although I was unaware of it - people still actually socialized post 6:30pm. I left the pub with a wistful pang, and wondered how I could make this a weekly “thing”.
It’s hard when you don’t have family on call 24/7 (I admit my Mum is pretty supportive but unfortunately for me she has her own life and I need to allow her to live it 🙄) and it’s hard to justify paying $25 an hour for baby sitter (although they’re worth every cent) simply to go out for dinner and drinks for a non-occasion.
It got me thinking...and again vocalizing with husband (poor bastard) there has to be a solution to this.
We both get home on a Friday night, after long week of work/commuting/parenting/bullshitting/etc/etc put the girls to be bed by 630 as they are both wrecked from a day at daycare....and then we sit on the couch. We get take out. We watch shit tv. Husband is normally snoring his fkn stupid chops off by 8, by 8:14 I’ve started to lose my shit and have thrown shit at his head to wake him...blah blah.
So I’m thinking, there has to be a solution. Let’s say I want to go to the pub every Friday, I’ve seen the kids, I’ve bathed them (I haven’t, I’m just saying that) I’ve fed them (courtesy of the Golden Arches) and they’re fast asleep and it’s 6:45.
Is there someone that’s classified as something between a baby sitting and a house sitter.
Come over. We have foxtel. We have WiFi. We have a fridge full of booze (drink responsibly), (cont in comments)
