Meet Lynn. She's a thinker and dreamer, but one whose feet are planted firmly on the ground, and whose head is below the clouds. She is full of thoughts and ideas, and has a knack for articulating them in a way that is engaging and meaningful. She seeks to share truth with others through interaction and art.
One of my favorite stories she tells is when one of her elementary aged students came up to her crying because he had been called a lunchbox. Her immediate response was not to laugh nor to comfort him, but to help him see the truth. She asked him, 'Are you a lunchbox?' The kid slowly replied, 'No', and then, 'but he called me a lunchbox'. She told him it might had been unkind, but wanted him to understand the truth and not let emotions get the better of him.
That response is demonstrative of how she acknowledges and upholds truth in light of emotions. Understanding that humans can easily conflate emotions with non-truths, she expresses her observations in light of truth through the form of art. She draws, writes, and paints to tell stories. Some of her favorite artists include Klimt, Matisse, and Degas.
An unmistakable attribute to her stories stem from her relational personality. She's a community shaper who recognizes that, 'Our generation is lonely', but also that 'relationships and friendships are messy', and that 'many are unwilling to put in the work.' But she does. And she does it through involvement and interactions with people at a high intentional, meta level. She believes, 'Questions take you on a quest.' Lynn is kind and poetic. Careful and thoughtful. And just like sunflowers, she turns her face towards where the sun shines brightest. #thepeoplescolumn #postthepeople
