THE SUNSHINE VITAMIN☀️ I am lucky 🍀 enough to be waking up to the sunshine this morning but as we head into winter it is essential to ensure that you are getting adequate amounts of vitamin D.
Vitamin D plays an important role in many body 🤸♀️ functions: 👉vitamin D is vital for normal immune function, as it makes up part of the immune signally which helps the body fight disease but also importantly tells the body to stop attacking itself - which is why it is such a great #anti-inflammatory
and helps to prevent #autoimmune
👉vitamin D plays an important role in calcium absorption which is not only essential for bone health, but #heart
❤️ health as well, as it helps to remove calcium from the vessels (which plaques are known to cause vessel weakness and heart disease). This is especially important for women as they age as it may avert #osteoporosis
👉vitamin D impacts your mood 🙃 as it activates the genes that produce dopamine and serotonin. Lack of these neurotransmitters is linked to depression.
If you aren't planning on going anywhere sunny over the winter months, ensure that your diet includes vitamin D enriched foods such as fatty fish 🐟, egg 🍳 yolks, cheese and liver.
I would also suggest #supplementing
with vitamin D3 (I use @naturesanswer
). And remember vitamin D3 is the more active form (and the one produced by your skin in the #sun)
so try to opt for this version rather than vitamin D2 (which has been shown to be toxic in high doses). Wherever you are waking up today bring some sunshine into your life 🌞
