Haochen Zhang, another one of the gifted flock of former students of Gary Graffman, who was proudly applauding next to me....including Lang Lang and Yuja Wang. But there is no glitz here, instead Zhang choreographs thoughtfully wrought soundscapes with magnificent breath and natural appeal. He still runs his programs through for Graffman, on occasion, but this young artist shows a craft of his own with an exemplary palette of colors and some of the longest musical lines, I have heard, especially in Schumann’s Kinder Szenen ! #trueartist#GaryGraffman#Zankelhall#schumann#scenes ofchildhood #haochenzangpiano
Kudos to #Aspect, the classical series at #ColumbiaUniversity’s#ItalianAcademy, which with its mix of quality music presentations and conversational talks, puts music in its historical context. With a string of chamber music performances that included tonight’s spirited Ariel quartet, the series has build a steady following. A free wine and cheese reception does encourage its social rapport and Irina Knaster, the series‘ leading force makes it work, time and again. Always happy to be part of Aspect! #Aspect_music_and_arts
What a sign of our time that performers show their composing sides now, #daniiltrifonov performing his own Piano Concerto in E-flat Minor with #valerygergiev and the #mariinskyorchestra at #carnegiehall. By the way I had to ask him, the Encore was one of Prokofiev’s Sarcasm collection, and meant as a preview to his upcoming Mai recital as part of his Perspective Series at Carnegie Hall.
#GoldCoastInternationalFilmFestival's feature #TheParisOpera eavesdropped with fascinating and intimate non-presence, behind the scenes of an ever celebrated institution. We are taken into the midst of season 2014/15, with its new director #StephaneLissner and its leaving star director of dance #BenjaminMillepied, terror attacks on Paris' #Bastille and the ever mounting hazards of performing arts production. In between the frantic search for a replacement for the role of #HansSachs of Wagner's #DieMeistersingervonNuernberg, new rising talent (from Russia, of course) and debates about appropriate ticket pricing, one gets a glimpse of the wheels that make such institutions work - so the show must go on. The viewing was a sold out event at a movie theater in Manhassat, one of several of the festival's Long Island neighborhood, organised and conceived by #ReginaKellerGil. A Q&A that was supposed to follow with the film’s director #JeanStephaneBron was unfortunately cancelled.
